Apeldoorn, August 25, 2021 – Digital sports marketing agency Sportunity from Apeldoorn has entered into a long-term partnership with sports timekeeping party MYLAPS. The latter has transferred its event app to Sportunity and with this new collaboration they want to further increase the digital event experience for participants, fans and sponsors. The apps for various major international sporting events will now be developed by Sportunity.
Sportunity expects to support approximately 600 events with the new platform in the first year, connecting some 3 million athletes and fans worldwide. Niels Schut (director and founder of Sportunity) is very happy and proud with this collaboration: “Our mission is ‘Connect people who love sports’ and this collaboration helps us to further fulfill this mission and to take on new challenges all over the world . We are super excited to be working with the global leader in sports timekeeping, their timing partners and event organizations. We can’t wait to further expand the platform and further increase the event experience of participants!”
TRACX: the new event app
Sportunity offers event organizers the option to develop a white label event app for them, completely in their own house style and download it from the app stores under their own desired name. All events can also be found in the TRACX app, the place where Sportunity offers a community environment to athletes and fans.
Apeldoorner and runner Gert-Jan Wassink is the proud face of TRACX
The further development of the platform is more than just writing code by developers. Sportunity wants to create a community for athletes who are looking for challenges. This includes cool content that athletes can identify with. Niels Schut: “We were looking for someone from the market who could represent athletes. In addition to being a great runner, Gert-Jan is also an entrepreneur. With his training schedules, he helps many athletes prepare for individual performances, something he can support us with in the future.”
“The TRACX app is the app that will support athletes to get more out of their sports performance.” – Gert-Jan Wassink (professional runner)
There was little doubt for the multiple medalist when he was approached by Sportunity. “There was an immediate click. The best thing about our collaboration is that they can easily convert my expertise into digital solutions that are and remain accessible to athletes.” Gert-Jan has also been important to Sportunity during development. He made extensive use of the app in the run-up to its launch. Testing is very important in the preparation. Gert-Jan himself says the following about it: “I was immediately sold when using the app. It’s more than just being able to see important stats about your performance. You can easily follow people you train with, want to follow or would like to encourage along the way, so you can see exactly when this person comes along. The TRACX app is the app that will support athletes to get more out of their sports performance.”
Connecting unbound athletes
Sportunity was founded in 2010 by Niels Schut from Apeldoorn. The aim is to give substance to the ‘transition in sport’ in collaboration with sports associations, municipalities and other partners. Fewer and fewer people want to join a sports club, and more and more people play sports in an unfettered way, in their own time. Through the Sportunity platforms, insights are obtained into this unfettered athlete, and at the same time Sportunity wants to offer them as much sports experience as possible. “The new event apps are a really cool addition to our platforms. The untethered athlete is looking for challenges and can now also find them in participating in sporting events. When we talked to MYLAPS about the acquisition of the event apps, we were of course immediately enthusiastic, because this fits in seamlessly with our vision for the future.”
